ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has launched a ministerial oversight team to fast-track the completion and operation of Nigeria’s flagship education projects, as authorities move to prevent billions of naira invested in Smart Schools, Bilingual Schools and Alternative Schools from becoming idle assets.
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) on Tuesday inaugurated the Ministerial Implementation and Monitoring Team for the projects, a move officials say is aimed at accelerating delivery, strengthening oversight and ensuring the facilities become fully operational.
The intervention comes as the government seeks to close education access gaps and improve learning opportunities for millions of Nigerian children.
UBEC Executive Secretary Aisha Garba said the initiative demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that strategic education investments deliver measurable outcomes.
“Today’s event demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that these strategic interventions are completed on schedule, effectively monitored, efficiently managed, and fully operational for the benefit of Nigerian children,” she said.
The Smart Schools programme, one of the government’s flagship education initiatives, has established 37 schools nationwide, with 24 already operational.
