Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government reaffirms plans to scale up immunisation programmes and revitalise 8,000 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) under the 2024–2028 Medium-Term Framework (MTF).
Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Salako announced this after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu.
Salako says the MTF places strong emphasis on social welfare and primary healthcare strengthening. He notes that the ongoing upgrade of 4,000 PHCs will continue alongside the planned rehabilitation of another 8,000, ensuring long-term sustainability.
“It means the revitalised 4,000 PHCs and the additional 8,000 on stream can be sustained,” he says.
The minister highlights the success of the nationwide HPV vaccine rollout, which he says has reached over 40 million Nigerian children. He also announces that the combined measles-rubella vaccine campaign, which covered nearly 30 million children, will be significantly scaled up next year.
Salako stresses that the administration’s health strategy reflects President Tinubu’s broader commitment to improving human capital and citizen wellbeing.
“It highlights Mr President’s commitment to social welfare, which touches the average Nigerian directly,” he says.
The minister assures that continuity of immunisation funding under the MTF will safeguard the gains made in vaccine coverage across the country.
