LAGOS, Nigeria – The Federal Government has announced a partial closure of sections of the busy Ikorodu–Sagamu Road from Monday to allow reconstruction of damaged portions of the highway linking Lagos State and Sagamu.
Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, on Sunday said the temporary traffic diversion is necessary to enable contractors continue rehabilitation work on critical sections of the road.
According to him, affected areas include the stretch from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction and the Lagos Cement to Coca-Cola axis inward Sagamu.
“Motorists travelling from Ikorodu toward Sagamu will be redirected through alternative lanes under a counterflow traffic arrangement,” Komolafe says.
He explains that the reconstruction project is expected to last for three months to allow intensive construction activities and proper curing of the concrete pavement aimed at improving the durability of the highway.
Komolafe adds that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, directed Arab Contractors to return to site and accelerate completion of the project.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority are expected to manage traffic flow and reduce disruption along the corridor throughout the repair period.
The government urges motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and security agencies while appealing for patience during the rehabilitation works.
Authorities say the project forms part of broader efforts to improve federal road infrastructure and enhance transportation safety nationwide.
