KANO, Nigeria – The Federal Government and APC governors pledge ₦8 billion to traders displaced by the Singer Market fire in Kano.
Vice President Kashim Shettima announces the support during a political reception at the Sani Abacha Stadium, saying President Bola Tinubu approves ₦5 billion as immediate relief.
“The Federal Government stands firmly with Kano,” Shettima says. “This support will help victims recover and rebuild their livelihoods.”
He adds that the APC Governors Forum, chaired by Hope Uzodimma, pledges an additional ₦3 billion.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf thanked the Federal Government, describing the intervention as timely and critical for affected traders.
“Our people want recovery, development and stability,” Yusuf says.
The event also marks Yusuf’s formal defection to the All-Progressives Congress alongside lawmakers and council chairmen, signalling stronger political alignment with the centre.
