ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has defended the arrest and arraignment of Samuel Ojeogwu, widely known as Sammy West and brother to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, stating that the operation followed due legal process.
In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the police acted based on a formal petition received on October 28, alleging criminal conspiracy, assault, intimidation, trespass, theft, and cyber-bullying involving Ojeogwu and three others.
According to the statement, the suspect was invited multiple times for questioning but failed to respond.
“Mr. Samuel Ojeogwu was arrested in Lagos under the authority of a valid warrant issued by a competent court and was transported to Abuja for further investigation,” Adeh said.
Following investigation, Ojeogwu was charged to court on November 6 and subsequently remanded pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
Adeh emphasised that the matter is now before the court and will proceed in accordance with judicial procedure.
“The FCT Police Command remains committed to professional policing, respect for due process, and upholding the rule of law,” she said.
The development has sparked public debate on social media, with supporters alleging harassment while security observers note that compliance with police invitations remains a legal obligation, regardless of social status.
The police urged citizens to cooperate with lawful investigations and seek legal remedies through the court system instead of online commentary.
