ABEOKUTA, Nigeria – Suspected gunmen have killed a former Ogun State Television employee, Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan”, and her security guard during an attack on her residence in the Kobape area of Abeokuta.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday, has thrown the Ogun media community into mourning and sparked concerns over security among residents.
Police said the assailants invaded the residence, killed both victims and fled with the deceased’s vehicle.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying it was reported at the Owode Egba Division by a resident who noticed suspicious activities at the property.
“The incident was reported at Owode Egba Division on Sunday, June 21, 2026, by a resident of Iyana Agodo Village, who raised alarm over suspicious activities at the residence,” police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said.
“Police detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where preliminary assessment revealed signs of forced entry and disturbance.”
According to the police, the body of the security guard was found inside the security post, while Oyesiku’s body was later discovered inside her apartment.
“The victim’s vehicle was also observed missing from the premises,” Babaseyi added.
The killings have generated grief among family members, former colleagues and residents of Kobape.
Residents called on security agencies to increase surveillance and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
“An intensive investigation is ongoing to unravel the facts, track down and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act,” the police spokesman said.
The command expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, the OGTV community and media practitioners in Ogun State.
