EKITI, Nigeria – An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced two brothers and their female accomplice to death by hanging for robbing an 87-year-old woman of ₦147,000 and a wristwatch.
The convicts — Shadrack Akpos (30), Lucky Akpos (33), and Adunola Precious (24) — were arraigned before Justice Lekan Ogunmoye on 19 August 2024, on two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery.
Prosecuting counsel Kunle-Shina Adeyemo on Monday told the court that the trio committed the offences on 12 June 2024 at Ifaki-Ekiti, armed with a gun and wooden plank. The victim, Madam Victoria Folorunso, testified that she was attacked in her home around 1 a.m.
“They demanded all my money and took ₦147,000, my wristwatch, and threatened to shoot me if I refused,” she told the court.
She added that the robbers, who were not masked, ordered her to withdraw ₦3 million from her bank account and deliver it to her housemaid, Precious, for onward handover to them.
Delivering judgment, Justice Ogunmoye ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
“From the credible evidence presented, the defendants conspired and carried out the robbery. They are found guilty as charged,” he declared.
He consequently sentenced all three to death by hanging, praying, “May God have mercy on their souls.”
