ABUJA, Nigeria – The Kwara State Government has warned of an increasingly sophisticated network of kidnapping gangs after the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested a medical doctor allegedly supplying drugs to injured kidnappers across the region.
In a statement posted on the government’s official Facebook page on Friday, officials confirmed that the doctor was intercepted in Jebba, Moro LGA, while reportedly transporting medical supplies from Sokoto State to criminal groups operating within and beyond Kwara.
“The Department of State Service has taken into custody a medical doctor who was ferrying drugs from Sokoto to kidnappers in parts of Kwara State,” the statement read.
Authorities say the arrest is part of a broader effort to dismantle the logistical systems that allow kidnapping syndicates to sustain operations — including medical support, transportation networks, and local informants.
Government officials warned that kidnapping groups are expanding their operational capacities despite intensified security actions, describing the disrupted medical supply route as evidence of the evolving nature of criminal enterprises in North-Central Nigeria.
Investigations into the suspects’ links and wider criminal network are ongoing.
