ASABA, Nigeria – Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force kill two suspected kidnappers and rescue two victims during a joint operation with the military in Delta State.
Police say the raid targets a kidnapping syndicate operating in Ubulu-Uku and surrounding communities in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, officers from the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad track the suspects to a hideout along a power line.
“On sighting operatives, the suspects open fire,” he says, adding that a gun battle follows.
The suspects sustain fatal gunshot injuries and are later confirmed dead in hospital, while two abducted women are rescued unharmed.
Police recover one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and N4.2 million believed to be part of ransom payments.
Edafe says a manhunt is ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commends the operation and highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration.
“Such collaboration remains critical in tackling violent crimes,” he says, urging residents to provide timely information.
Authorities reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding lives and property amid ongoing security challenges in the region.
