ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), urges national unity against insecurity and issues a stern warning to individuals aiding bandits, terrorists and criminal groups.
He delivers the message on Saturday while speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Golf Tournament at the TYB Golf Resort, Yar’Adua Barracks, Abuja.
General Musa says the Federal Government has fully empowered the Armed Forces and security agencies to confront threats to national stability. “I call on all Nigerians to continue to support the Armed Forces and security agencies and work for peace,” Musa says.
Invoking a proverb, he issues a blunt caution to collaborators. “Those supporting bandits, criminals, insurgents and terrorists should stop forthwith. The friend of a thief is a thief. If you are with them on the battlefield, whatever happens to them happens to you,” he warns.
The minister stresses the importance of intelligence sharing, urging citizens to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
He also highlights the significance of Armed Forces Remembrance Day, describing it as a moment to honour fallen heroes and acknowledge the sacrifices of serving personnel and their families. “Their sacrifices must never be forgotten,” Musa says.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, echoes the call for vigilance, saying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the military to ensure peace nationwide. “If you see something, say something. Security is everybody’s business,” Oluyede adds.
Brigadier General Nichols Ashinze, Captain of the TYB Golf Club, says the tournament forms part of nationwide remembrance activities, drawing over 100 participants.
The remarks come amid rising insecurity concerns across several states.
