ABUJA, Nigeria – The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is set for a historic expansion that will increase its production capacity from 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.4 million bpd, positioning it as the world’s largest refinery upon completion.
Chairman, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, disclosed this at a Lagos press briefing on Sunday, alongside businessman Femi Otedola.
“We are expanding to 1.4 million barrels per day, surpassing India’s Jamnagar Refinery,” Dangote said. “This project will further strengthen Nigeria’s refining capacity and energy independence.”
He stated that construction will engage over 65,000 workers, with 85% Nigerians, generating thousands of local jobs. Dangote also announced plans to boost the refinery’s power generation from 500MW to 1,000MW and upgrade its output to Euro 6 standard fuels.
“The refinery will list on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2026,” Dangote added, noting that this will allow citizens to invest and benefit from the milestone project.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “unwavering support” and reaffirmed that the expansion will be completed within three years.
