ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has unveiled its One-Stop-Shop (OSS) initiative, reducing cargo clearance time from 21 days to just 48 hours.
NCS spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada confirmed the reform on Sunday in Abuja, following a management meeting with Customs Area Controllers chaired by Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi.
The meeting centred on the service’s modernisation agenda and leadership’s role in implementing reforms.
Describing the OSS as a “transformative shift,” Adeniyi said the system aligns with global best practices and supports the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business policy.
“This OSS initiative will not only shorten clearance time from 21 days to 48 hours, but it will also strengthen trader confidence, restore transparency and make our operations more business-friendly,” Adeniyi said.
He emphasised that the reform would sanitise operations, eliminate duplication, and improve predictability in customs procedures.
While highlighting the role of technology, Adeniyi stressed that direct engagement with officers remains vital to ensuring accountability and efficiency.
The initiative marks a major step in Nigeria’s trade facilitation strategy, with stakeholders expecting smoother port operations and improved competitiveness in regional and global markets.
