OGUN, Nigeria – The Nigeria Customs Service intercepts contraband worth N1.35 billion in Ogun State and transfers large cannabis consignments to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Acting Controller Olukayode Afeni says the seizures follow intelligence-led operations targeting smuggling routes through creeks and border corridors.
“Officers intercepted a truck in Agbara carrying 2,539 kegs of vegetable oil,” he says, noting the goods were smuggled in small consignments.
Other seizures include foreign rice, spaghetti, petrol, sugar and used vehicles, highlighting persistent smuggling of essential commodities. Customs Seize N1.35bn Contraband, Hand Cannabis to NDLEA
Afeni confirms that 2,547 parcels of cannabis are handed over to NDLEA, alongside wildlife items transferred for conservation.
“The command will do all it takes to suppress smuggling,” he adds.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to dismantle smuggling networks operating across the region.
