ABUJA, Nigeria – The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability of clean naira notes while urging Nigerians to treat the currency with respect.
Speaking on Thursday at the CBN Special Day during the 20th Abuja International Trade Fair, Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs Hakama Ali, said clean currency is vital for economic stability.
“Respect the Naira, keep it clean. Do not spray, mutilate, hawk, or counterfeit it. Our Naira, Our Pride,” Ali said.
She noted that the CBN alone cannot maintain clean currency, urging citizens to act as ambassadors of the campaign.
Ali added that the bank’s broader efforts include maintaining stable foreign exchange, robust financial systems and strong fiscal collaboration. She said these measures had boosted external reserves to $43.05 billion as of September 11, 2025, from $40.51 billion in July.
“Through collective effort, we can guide our economy towards inclusive growth,” she said.
The trade fair, themed Sustainable: Consumption, Incentives and Taxation, runs from September 25 to October 6.
