NIGER, Nigeria – The Federal Government says it targets May 29, 2026, for the completion and commissioning of the 29.5-kilometre Bida–Zungeru–Wushishi highway in Niger State.
Officials of the Ministry of Works disclose the timeline during an inspection tour of ongoing federal road projects across the state.
Federal Controller of Works in Niger State, Aluko Eyitayo, says construction has reached an advanced stage, with 16 kilometres of asphalt binder already laid.
“The progress so far is encouraging,” Eyitayo says. “In the next two to three months, this project should be completed.”
He adds that the final asphalt wearing course will begin shortly, expressing confidence the road will be ready before the deadline.
During the tour, officials inaugurated the rehabilitated Gwada–Shiroro road and a reconstructed box culvert that previously cut off communities and economic activity.
Residents welcome the reopening, describing improved safety, trade and access to the Shiroro hydropower facility.
The ministry also inspects other highways, including the Minna–Zungeru–Tegina–Kontagora route. While security challenges delay some sections, contractors have returned with armed protection.
The Ministry of Works reiterates its commitment to improving connectivity, road safety and economic growth across Niger State.
