MAKURDI, Nigeria – The Benue State Government begins the resettlement of victims displaced by the June 2025 Yelewata attacks, marking a major step towards restoring livelihoods and stability in affected communities.
The Secretary to the State Government, Deborah Aber, disclosed this at a press briefing on Monday, saying internally displaced persons are gradually returning to their ancestral homes.
Aber, who chairs the state’s IDP Donations Technical Committee, says over N1.27 billion has been received from donors including Oluremi Tinubu, Nasarawa State Government, United Bank for Africa and the Department of State Services.
She says more than 85 per cent of the committee’s mandate has been achieved, with funds allocated across food, health, shelter, education, agriculture, water, security and resettlement.
According to Aber, 38 of the planned 60 two-bedroom homes in Yelewata are at the roofing stage, while three are fully roofed. She adds that 5,883 IDPs have been enrolled in the Benue State Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring access to medical care.
International partners, including UNHCR, are also supporting recovery efforts, with a world-class clinic under construction in Yelewata.
