ZAMFARA, Nigeria – Security operatives have launched a coordinated rescue mission after suspected bandits abducted several students of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda during a late-night raid on an off-campus residence in Zamfara State.
The attack occurred on Tuesday night at a student lodge located in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda.
Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Mannir Haidara Kaura, on Wednesday confirmed the incident and said security agencies had begun intensive operations to rescue the victims.
“Security operatives are carrying out coordinated operations aimed at ensuring the safe return of the abducted students,” he said.
A student of the institution, Ibrahim Ahmad, disclosed that one victim escaped during the attack while six others remain in captivity.
The abducted students reportedly include both male and female residents of the lodge.
The Zamfara State Police Command also confirmed the incident.
Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, clarified that the attack occurred outside the school premises and not within the institution itself.
According to police, the attackers gained access after one occupant stepped outside and inadvertently left the door open.
“Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit and troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have launched a joint operation to rescue the victims and apprehend the abductors,” Abubakar said.
The incident has heightened fears among residents and students, with community groups expressing concern over recurring kidnappings and attacks in the area despite ongoing military operations.
