LOKOJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Army has foiled a major drug-trafficking attempt in Kogi State, intercepting 108.8 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa and arresting a suspect posing as a police officer.
The operation was carried out by troops of the 12 Brigade during a routine stop-and-search at the Agbede Response Area on 24 November 2025.
Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday. He said soldiers became suspicious after spotting police items inside a Toyota Camry with registration DKA 158AU, driven by one Johnson Ayo.
“The presence of a branded police hat and belt raised immediate suspicion,” Abdullahi said. A detailed search uncovered 10 sacks of cannabis concealed inside the vehicle.
He stressed the national security implications: “Large-scale movement of such narcotics not only finances criminal networks but also fuels violent activities, including banditry across Kogi and neighbouring states.”
The suspect, along with the seized drugs and fake paraphernalia, has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution.
Abdullahi praised the collaboration between security agencies:
“The partnership between the Nigerian Army and NDLEA is crucial in dismantling criminal operations that threaten our communities.”
