AKWA IBOM, Nigeria – More than 30 laptops and tablets have been distributed to healthcare facilities across Akwa Ibom State as the state health insurance agency moves to strengthen data collection and use health information to improve planning and service delivery.
The Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency distributed more than 20 laptops and 10 tablets on Tuesday as part of activities marking its second anniversary. Healthcare practitioners from primary, secondary and tertiary facilities across the state’s 31 local government areas attended the event.
The Commissioner for Health, Ekem Emmanuel, commended Governor Umo Eno for establishing the agency and pursuing measures aimed at expanding access to healthcare.
He said the state government’s expansion of primary healthcare infrastructure was part of efforts to make healthcare more accessible to residents.
Ekem also urged healthcare workers to demonstrate commitment, empathy and professionalism in delivering services, warning against practices such as truancy that could undermine patient care.
Chairman of the Health Insurance Board, Edikan Ekwere, said the anniversary provided an opportunity to recognise healthcare partners while distributing the gadgets to strengthen data collection.
Executive Secretary of the agency, Igbemi Arthur Igbemi, said the initiative was focused on strengthening the agency’s capacity to support the state’s health agenda through better data collection and management.
He stressed that reliable health data was essential for evidence-based planning and effective decision-making in the sector.
The agency said stronger data systems would support efforts to monitor healthcare services and improve planning as Akwa Ibom works to expand access to affordable and sustainable healthcare.
