AKURE, Nigeria – Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa supports plans to upgrade Rufus Giwa Polytechnic into a specialised university.
The proposed institution, University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Owo, aims to drive innovation in agriculture and technology.
“This university can become one of the best in Nigeria,” Aiyedatiwa says while receiving the planning committee’s report.
He stresses the role of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, in boosting agricultural productivity.
Committee chairman Igbekele Ajibefun says the upgrade expands access to higher education and promotes applied knowledge.
“The objective reflects our commitment to innovation,” he says, confirming that a draft law has been prepared.
The governor adds that the transition will be carefully managed to protect current students and ensure institutional stability.
