ABUJA, Nigeria – Air Force Search for Abducted Oyo Pupils has intensified as the Nigerian Air Force continues aerial surveillance operations to support efforts aimed at rescuing teachers and schoolchildren kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has maintained round-the-clock intelligence and surveillance missions following the abduction of pupils and teachers from three schools in the affected communities.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by NAF spokesman Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed the development during a courtesy visit by representatives of the Chief of the Air Staff and senior Air Force officers.
Makinde said the Air Force responded swiftly after the abduction was reported by deploying an aerial surveillance platform to support search-and-rescue operations.
“The NAF promptly deployed an aerial surveillance platform immediately after the abduction was reported, providing critical intelligence to support search-and-rescue operations,” the statement said.
The governor noted that intelligence gathered through the missions continues to assist security agencies in tracking developments and coordinating rescue efforts.
He appealed for patience from residents, assuring them that security agencies remain committed to securing the safe return of the victims.
Makinde also commended the Air Force for providing surveillance support while Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial security assets are still undergoing assembly at the NAF Base in Lagos.
According to him, the state procured the aircraft following consultations with the Air Force to ensure access to maintenance support, engineering expertise and pilot training.
The governor expressed confidence that the assets would significantly strengthen security operations across Oyo and neighbouring states once fully operational.
Representing the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting rescue efforts.
“The NAF remains committed to working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to safeguard lives and property,” he said.
The victims were abducted on May 15 during an attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The incident sparked nationwide outrage, prompting protests by teachers’ unions and civil society organisations.
Security agencies continue search operations as pressure mounts for the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils.
