The week-long conference, themed “The Role of PBOs in African Parliaments’ Fiscal Oversight: Contribution to the African 2063 Development Agenda,” is designed to strengthen parliaments’ capacity to oversee budgets while aligning policies with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Delegates from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Cape Verde, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania, Malawi, and Liberia are in attendance.
Sessions are focused on sharing best practices, boosting transparency, and adopting new fiscal oversight strategies.
Organisers said the conference reflects the increasing role of Parliamentary Budget Offices in shaping governance. “Strong fiscal institutions are critical to achieving Agenda 2063’s development vision,” one delegate emphasised.
