YOLA, Nigeria – The Adamawa State Government imposes a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a fresh outbreak of communal violence, as security agencies move swiftly to prevent further bloodshed.
The curfew takes effect immediately after clashes erupt on Sunday evening, heightening tension in the area and raising fears of escalation.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, the state government says Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri directs all security agencies to deploy to the affected communities without delay.
“The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash,” the statement says. “Security agencies have been directed to move in and restore peace and order.”
Authorities describe the measure as preventive, aimed at protecting lives and property while allowing security personnel to stabilise the situation. The government expresses concern over the recurrence of communal disturbances in Lamurde and warns that those found responsible for instigating violence will be prosecuted.
Investigations into the cause of the clash are ongoing, officials say, as security operatives work with local leaders to contain the unrest.
Residents are urged to remain indoors, cooperate fully with security agencies and provide credible information that could assist in restoring calm.
The state government reiterates its commitment to safeguarding citizens and says it will continue engaging traditional rulers and community stakeholders to promote lasting peace.
