ADAMAWA, Nigeria – The Adamawa State Government has directed all public and private boarding schools to suspend operations following rising student abductions in northern Nigeria.
Commissioner for Education and Human Development, Dr Umar Pella, on Saturday stated that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri approved the measure to prevent incidents similar to those in Niger and Kebbi states. “Criminal groups appear to be targeting boarding schools. All boarding activities are suspended until further notice,” Pella said.
School principals and proprietors were instructed to convert institutions to day schools immediately. The directive aligns with similar measures in Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, Niger, and Taraba states.
The Federal Ministry of Education clarified that no nationwide closure mandate has been issued as of 24 November 2025.
Authorities emphasise ongoing vigilance to protect students while assessing security risks.
