KATSINA, Nigeria – The Katsina State Government says joint security forces have killed five suspected bandits and rescued 32 kidnapped victims during intensified operations targeting criminal groups across the state.
The operation forms part of ongoing offensives against notorious bandit leader Muhammadu Fulani, who reportedly operates across Matazu, Musawa, Kankia, Charanchi and parts of neighbouring Kano State.
In a statement, Katsina Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu, says security operatives also recovered weapons and logistics items allegedly used by the criminal network.
Recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, 10 magazines and nine motorcycles.
Authorities identify one of the slain suspects as Samagi, described as a close associate of notorious bandit leader Muhammadu Kachalla.
“In recent operations, security forces neutralised five bandits and recovered operational weapons and equipment,” the statement says.
The rescued victims include 10 women, nine men and 13 children allegedly held captive by the armed group.
Mu’azu reiterates that the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda will not negotiate with bandits.
“The governor has continuously emphasised that the administration is committed to eliminating banditry at all costs and bringing criminal activities to the absolute minimum,” he says.
The commissioner adds that security forces are continuing the manhunt for Muhammadu Fulani and members of his network across affected communities.
Bandit attacks and kidnappings remain a major security challenge across north-western Nigeria, where armed groups frequently raid villages, rustle cattle and abduct residents for ransom.
Authorities urge residents to provide credible intelligence to support ongoing operations against criminal gangs in the region.
