LAGOS, Nigeria – Private waste operators in Lagos State have credited strong collaboration and public participation for the successful reintroduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, despite initial concerns over logistics and compliance.
National President of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, Olugbenga Adebola, said the exercise recorded smooth waste evacuation and widespread engagement across communities.
“The success of the exercise can be traced to patriotism and a collective resolve by all stakeholders to support the initiative,” Adebola said on Monday.
He explained that operators intensified public sensitisation, acting as a bridge between government policy and residents to ensure effective participation and compliance.

Despite financial constraints, including rising diesel costs, operators supported the initiative to safeguard public health and environmental sustainability.
Adebola commended the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, the Lagos Waste Management Authority, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for backing the exercise.
He noted that continued dialogue would address operational challenges and improve long-term sustainability.
Stakeholders expressed optimism that sustained collaboration among residents, government agencies, and private operators would further strengthen sanitation outcomes in subsequent exercises.
