LAGOS, Nigeria – Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercept cocaine concealed in food flasks bound for the United Kingdom, arresting multiple suspects in coordinated nationwide operations.
The agency’s spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday says officers seize 2.80 kilogrammes of cocaine hidden in false-bottom flasks at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
“Two cargo agents were arrested, while further investigation led to the apprehension of the sender,” Babafemi states.
In a separate operation, NDLEA intercepts 2.90 kilogrammes of “Loud” cannabis concealed in snack packs arriving from the United States, leading to multiple arrests including the consignee.
The crackdown extends across several states. In Kaduna, officers recovered 847 kilogrammes of cannabis hidden in a cement truck.
“A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of large quantities of illicit drugs,” Babafemi adds.
In Cross River and Edo states, operatives destroy over 17,000 kilogrammes of cannabis farms and arrest suspects linked to cultivation.
Further seizures in Delta and Lagos include tramadol capsules, phenobarbital injections, and additional cannabis stockpiles.
The NDLEA says it is intensifying enforcement alongside its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign in schools and communities.
“We remain committed to curbing drug trafficking and abuse nationwide,” Babafemi says.
Security analysts say the seizures highlight evolving smuggling tactics and the need for sustained surveillance at Nigeria’s borders and transport hubs.
