ABUJA, Nigeria – The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has distributed about 140,000 instructional materials to public basic schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in a major push to strengthen teaching and learning outcomes.
The intervention, unveiled at Model Junior Secondary School in Abuja, is expected to directly benefit at least 10,000 pupils across the FCT.
Speaking at the event on Thursday, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, said the initiative reflects the commission’s sustained commitment to improving access to quality education nationwide.
“The instructional materials we are distributing today are not just books; they are tools of empowerment that will enable teachers to teach more effectively and pupils to learn more meaningfully,” she said.
Garba highlighted broader nationwide interventions, including the distribution of 100,000 materials to Quranic and Tsangaya schools, digital learning tools, over 400,000 library resources, and 15 million learning kits.
She urged teachers to maximise the use of the materials and called on the FCT Administration to sustain funding support, noting that education remains central to national development.
UBEC reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive education system aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
