ZAMFARA, Nigeria – Armed bandits, on Sunday kill at least 18 people in Bunkasau village, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, in a late-night highlighting Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.
Residents say over 80 gunmen on motorcycles storm the community, opening fire on civilians.
State Commissioner Mahmud Dantawasa confirms the death toll, with several others injured.
Governor Dauda Lawal condemns the attack, describing it as “senseless violence.”
“We will intensify efforts to restore peace and protect lives,” he says.
The assault follows earlier attacks in nearby communities, including abductions in Kurfa.
In a separate operation, security forces neutralised over 30 suspected bandits during a counter-offensive in Tsafe Local Government Area.
Security sources say the operation targets armed groups linked to notorious kingpin Ado Aleiro.
Authorities reaffirm commitment to tackling banditry through coordinated security measures.
