SOKOTO, Nigeria – The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Sokoto chapter, distributes relief materials to internally displaced persons (IDPs), urging governments to improve living conditions in camps nationwide.
The outreach, held on Friday at the Guiwa Low-Cost camp, forms part of the association’s 2026 Law Week activities.
Chairperson Rashidat Mohammed says the intervention is aimed at supporting vulnerable families affected by insecurity.
“Our effort is to complement government action and highlight the need for improved facilities,” she says.
Items distributed include food, clothing, detergents, mats and footwear to displaced residents.
Local Organising Committee Chairman Abdullahi Ibrahim joins the exercise, while legal practitioner Aisha Dantsoho calls for fairness in distributing aid.
She urges authorities to prioritise schools and healthcare services within camps to support long-term recovery.
Women Leader Lami Umar assures that items will be equitably shared among beneficiaries.
The association reiterates its call for coordinated efforts to improve welfare and dignity of displaced populations.
