Governor Yusuf.
KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government disburses N32 billion to settle outstanding gratuities and death benefits, addressing a significant portion of long-standing pension liabilities.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf confirms the payment, saying a fresh N5 billion sixth tranche brings total disbursements to N32 billion out of a N48 billion backlog.
“Today… we are settling an additional sum of N5 billion… bringing the cumulative total to N32 billion,” he says.
The government had earlier paid N27 billion in five tranches by December 2025, as part of efforts to clear inherited obligations.
Yusuf assures workers that his administration remains committed to resolving all outstanding payments before the end of his first term.
Officials, including Head of Service Bilkisu Maimota and Pension Fund Chairman Habu Muhammad Fagge, commend the move as a step towards restoring confidence in the pension system.
The governor also thanks labour unions for their cooperation and urges beneficiaries to utilise the funds responsibly.
Analysts say the sustained payments could ease financial hardship for retirees and strengthen public sector trust.
