IJEBU ODE, Nigeria – More than 30 pupils and a staff member are hospitalised after a suspected gas leak triggers массов vomiting and fainting at a secondary school in Ogun State.
Authorities say the incident occurs shortly after morning assembly at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, sparking panic as students collapse.
Vice Principal, Adeola Borogun, on Wednesday confirms no explosion takes place.
“It was an unusual odour that spread across the premises,” she says.
Ogun Environment Commissioner, Ola Oresanya, says investigators are working to identify the source.
“It’s a gas leak from somewhere. We are deploying analysers to determine its nature,” he explains.
All affected students are reported stable, while officials launch a full environmental investigation.
