ABUJA, Nigeria – A non-profit organisation, New Incentives – All Babies Are Equal, says it has enrolled 172,265 infants and disburses ₦1.594 billion to caregivers in January to improve immunisation uptake across northern Nigeria.
A statement issued on Monday, stated that the programme spans 11 states, with over 2,200 field workers conducting 43,915 payment sessions and extensive outreach campaigns. Kano records the highest enrollment, followed by Katsina and Bauchi.
“Five states meet or exceed the 80 per cent herd immunity benchmark,” the report states, citing Katsina, Jigawa, Kano, Gombe and Kaduna.
However, gaps persist. Sokoto records the lowest coverage, while Niger and Kebbi lag behind.
“Frequent vaccine stockouts continue to undermine outcomes,” the report adds, stressing the need for stronger supply systems despite gains driven by financial incentives.
