ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency dismantles a major drug trafficking network, seizing cocaine concealed in dried stockfish and intercepting multiple shipments across states.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency confirms the arrest of Akputa Dickson Ejike, 36, caught with 5.8 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside stockfish heads bound for India.
NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi on Sunday says operatives act on intelligence to intercept the suspect in Lagos, exposing a trafficking route linked to international networks.
In separate operations, officers seize methamphetamine concealed in automobile filters and intercept morphine and fentanyl shipments destined for the United Kingdom.
A major raid in Yaba leads to the arrest of Omolade Abigail Jolayemi and an accomplice, with over 76 kilograms of cannabis recovered. Additional seizures across Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Taraba, and Benue states push total confiscations into hundreds of kilograms.
NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa commends operatives, reaffirming a dual strategy of supply reduction and public awareness.
“Health and security remain priorities as we intensify the fight against drug abuse and trafficking,” he states.
The agency also expands sensitisation campaigns in schools nationwide to curb drug demand.
