KANO, Nigeria – A woman in Kano, on Wednesday delivered quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, with the state government stepping in to cover the full cost of medical care for both mother and babies.
Health officials say the mother, Hafsatu Yusuf, and her five newborns—three boys and two girls—are in stable condition and receiving specialised treatment under close medical supervision.
The rare multiple birth has drawn swift government intervention, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services across the state.
“This support has come at a critical moment for my family,” the husband, Salisu Nufi’u, says, expressing appreciation for the assistance.
Officials link the intervention to broader healthcare reforms aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality, particularly among vulnerable households.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration says it remains committed to expanding access to quality healthcare, with continued investment in facilities and emergency response services.
Authorities add that the case underscores the importance of timely medical care and government-backed support systems in managing high-risk deliveries.
