KANO, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force in Kano State has recovered four stolen vehicles and arrested four suspects linked to separate car theft cases across the state.
Police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa discloses the development in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to him, the arrests followed intelligence-led operations carried out by operatives of the Anti-Car Theft Unit in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the Commissioner of Police in Kano Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
Kiyawa says the first breakthrough occurred on March 7, when officers intercepted a dark blue Hyundai Elantra at the Naibawa Flyover in Kano.
The vehicle had earlier been reported stolen in Abuja, and was being driven by Ibrahim Muhd, 29, from Minna in Niger State, and Ahmed Sani, 32, of Abuja.
“The suspects were arrested and have confessed to the crime,” Kiyawa says.
He adds that on March 9, the Anti-Car Theft Unit arrested Abdulkarim Mamman, 30, of Malali Quarters in Kaduna while he was in possession of a Honda Civic along the Kwanar Dawaki axis of the Kano–Zaria Expressway.
Police say the suspect admitted stealing the vehicle from Karkasara Quarters in Kano.
In another operation, officers arrested Yusuf Ali, 28, from Kaduna in connection with a silver Toyota Corolla stolen from Dutse in Jigawa State.
Authorities also recovered a white Nissan Sunny previously stolen from a parking lot within the Kano metropolis.
Kiyawa says the suspects are currently undergoing further investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the process.
The police command urges residents to continue supporting law enforcement by providing credible information that could help prevent crime in the state.
