AKURE, Nigeria — The Livestock Productivity Resilience Support Project trains 100 livestock farmers in Ondo State on fodder production to improve productivity and reduce seasonal feed shortages.
State Project Coordinator Olufemi Adeogun disclosed this on Tuesday during a two-day capacity-building programme in Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area.
Adeogun says participants are drawn from the state’s three senatorial districts and selected as lead farmers tasked with transferring skills to others. Ondo Trains 100 Livestock Farmers to Boost Year-Round Feed
The training covers fodder establishment, hay and silage production, hydroponic feed systems and effective treatment of crop residues.
“This intervention is both strategic and timely,” Adeogun says. “Feed scarcity, rising costs and climate variability continue to undermine livestock productivity and profitability.”
Ondo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Leye Akinola, represented by the Permanent Secretary, says the programme will address poor feed quality and under-utilised crop residues.
“This training will reduce seasonal feed shortages and increase farmers’ incomes,” he says, pledging continued government support to scale successful practices.
Representatives of pig, sheep, goat and poultry farmers describe the initiative as a timely boost for livestock production and resilience across the state.
