ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched an investigation into reports of illegal car racing and stunt driving near the National Mosque area in Abuja.
FRSC in a statement on Monday confirms receiving complaints from residents over dangerous driving activities allegedly carried out by youths in the area.
“Yes, we have heard about such activities, which are illegal or quasi-illegal,” says FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide.
He says the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has directed the FCT Sector Commander, Felix Theman, to investigate and submit a report for further action.
Ogungbemide stresses that Nigerian roads are not authorised venues for racing.
“We do not have Formula One running on public roads. Any such activity compromises the safety of other road users and is not legal,” he says.
The FRSC confirms it has not granted approval to any group to conduct racing or stunt driving within the Federal Capital Territory.
Authorities assure residents that appropriate sanctions will follow once investigations are concluded, urging the public to continue reporting credible safety threats.
