ABUJA, Nigeria – Major airlines suspend flights after escalating United States–Israel strikes on Iran trigger widespread airspace shutdowns.
Leading Gulf carriers Emirates and Qatar Airways halt operations on Saturday as missile exchanges prompt Qatar, the UAE and neighbouring states to close their skies.
“Due to multiple regional airspace closures, Emirates has temporarily suspended operations to and from Dubai,” the airline says, urging passengers to monitor official updates.
Qatar Airways confirms flights to Doha remain suspended until at least midnight UTC, with extra staff deployed at Hamad International Airport to assist stranded travellers.
The escalation throws regional aviation into chaos, forcing cancellations and diversions across global routes linking Europe and Asia.
