ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria moves to reclaim control of its education narrative on the global stage as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) forges a strategic broadcast alliance with the Voice of Nigeria (VON) to showcase investments, reforms and academic transformation across the country’s tertiary institutions.
The partnership, unveiled at TETFund headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, positions Nigeria’s external broadcasting service as a central platform for projecting education development to audiences across Africa, Europe and beyond, countering years of limited visibility and fragmented storytelling.
TETFund Executive Secretary Arc. Sonny Echono says the collaboration comes at a critical moment, as the Fund rolls out large-scale project commissioning nationwide and seeks broader public accountability.
“We are intervening across institutions in every region of Nigeria,” Echono says. “The challenge now is ensuring that Nigerians—especially rural populations who depend on radio—fully understand the impact of these investments.”
He describes VON’s multilingual capacity as a strategic asset for reaching diverse audiences at home and abroad, directing sustained content co-creation between both organisations to deliver consistent, transparent messaging.
VON Director-General Jibrin Baba Ndace says the alliance supports a broader repositioning of Nigeria’s global image, stressing that development successes are often overshadowed internationally.
“Nigeria must tell its own story,” Ndace says. “Education is one of our strongest development pillars, and the world needs to see that.”
He adds that VON’s broadcasts in eight languages and plans to reactivate its high-capacity international transmitter will significantly expand Nigeria’s education footprint worldwide.
