President Tinubu and King Charles
ABUJA, Nigeria- President Bola Tinubu prepares for a historic State Visit to the United Kingdom later this month following a formal invitation from King Charles III, marking Nigeria’s first such visit in 37 years.
Buckingham Palace confirms that Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will be hosted at Windsor Castle from 18 to 19 March.
“This State Visit underscores the enduring relationship between our nations,” the Royal Household states.
In a statement on Sunday, the Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga describes the visit as a landmark in Nigeria–UK relations, noting that the last Nigerian leader to receive full state honours was General Ibrahim Babangida in 1989.
The visit follows the Nigeria–UK strategic partnership concluded in November 2024, covering trade, security, climate action, and migration.
Since assuming office, Tinubu has undertaken multiple state and official visits across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, signing key agreements with Türkiye, Brazil, and China.
Officials say the UK visit reflects Abuja’s renewed diplomatic engagement and economic outreach under Tinubu’s foreign policy agenda.
