ABIA, Nigeria – The Abia State Government launches a comprehensive E-Health initiative to digitise medical records, expand telemedicine, and modernise healthcare delivery across the state.
The announcement follows deliberations of the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti, according to the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, who briefs journalists in Umuahia on Tuesday.
Kanu says the E-Health project marks a major shift from analogue record-keeping to a digital health ecosystem that enables real-time data access, remote consultations, and integrated emergency response services.
“This project aligns with the administration’s vision of building a fully digital governance system that improves efficiency and service delivery,” Kanu states.
He confirms that onboarding for the Emergency Medical Treatment Gateway and the formal inauguration of the Abia Emergency Medical Treatment and Ambulance Services is scheduled to commence shortly.
As part of workforce readiness, newly recruited health personnel have undergone orientation to familiarise them with operational protocols and governance structures within the health system.
Kanu also announces the statewide rollout of the measles-rubella vaccination campaign, officially flagged off by the Governor’s wife, Mrs Priscilla Otti, describing it as critical to child health outcomes.
“Vaccination will be conducted at primary healthcare centres and designated facilities across Abia,” he says, adding that no disease outbreaks of public health concern are recorded during the recent lockdown period.
Beyond health, the commissioner discloses that the Aba Export Lab one-stop business facility is nearing completion and may open before the end of February. The hub will support SMEs with business registration, regulatory approvals, and innovation services.
Governor Otti, Kanu adds, urges residents to actively participate in INEC’s voter registration, describing civic inclusion as central to democratic development.
