The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has begun construction of a Leadership Centre of Excellence in Public Governance at the University of Abuja, marking a major push to strengthen leadership and governance education in Nigeria.
The foundation stone was laid on Tuesday in Jahi, Abuja, by TETFund Executive Secretary, Architect Sonny Echono, alongside University of Abuja Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi.
Echono describes leadership as central to national development, saying, “A country’s development is shaped by the quality of leaders it produces.”
He reveals that TETFund plans to commission 467 projects nationwide between now and October, part of broader reforms in tertiary education.
The Abuja centre, he says, is designed as a world-class facility for leadership training, policy dialogue and high-level engagements, capable of hosting heads of state and international delegations.
“This is more than a conference space,” Echono adds. “It is a distinguished leadership hub built to global standards.”
He discloses that TETFund will also fund equipment and furnishings, while selecting at least 50 landmark projects across states to showcase the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
