KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) has issued a public advisory after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) reported two suspected cases of severe febrile illness with bleeding symptoms in Abuja.
The KNCDC said the advisory was necessary due to Kano’s dense population and extensive travel links.
Preliminary investigations have ruled out Ebola virus disease, but tests are ongoing for Lassa fever, Dengue fever, and other viral haemorrhagic fevers.
“Viral haemorrhagic fevers are serious infectious diseases with symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, and unexplained bleeding,” KNCDC explained. “They spread through animals or person-to-person contact with bodily fluids.”
The agency urged residents to practise strict hygiene, avoid wild animals, and cook meat thoroughly. It also advised reporting immediately to health facilities if symptoms occur.
