Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government reaffirms its commitment to ethical health research, pledging sustained support for the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC).
Speaking on Tuesday at the NHREC’s 2026 training workshop in Abuja, Minister of State for Health, Iziaq Salako, stressed alignment with global standards.
“Ethical oversight is central to public trust and scientific credibility,” Salako says.
He credits NHREC, chaired by Richard Adegbola, for improving review timelines and oversight since 2024, describing its impact as “transformational”.
Salako applauds the digitisation of ethics approvals through a new e-portal, urging researchers and institutions to adopt it fully.
He also backs the TRACE project, promising continued funding for ethically sound clinical research under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
