SOKOTO, Nigeria – The Sokoto State Government has suspended two secondary school principals for persistent absenteeism, bringing the total number of suspended principals to eight.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, made the announcement on Friday following surprise inspection visits that exposed repeated absences despite earlier warnings.
“We cannot allow our children to remain without guidance because those entrusted with their education fail to show up,” Ala said. “Discipline and accountability must begin at the top if we expect quality performance from teachers and students.”
The affected institutions are Government Secondary School (GSS), Lambar Tureta, and Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS), Bissalam.
Vice principals of both schools have been directed to act in leadership roles to ensure continuity in administration and teaching.
Professor Ala, who led the inspections, was accompanied by the Director of Quality Assurance, Abdulkadir Umar Alkammawa, and the Director of Quality Assurance (Arabic Board), Muhammad Sani Usman.
“This action is not meant to punish, but to send a clear message that absenteeism and misconduct will not be tolerated,” Ala added.
