KATSINA, Nigeria – Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved the purchase of 30 hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to strengthen public transportation and ease mobility challenges for residents, particularly students in major towns across the state.
Governor Radda disclosed this while responding to requests from the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Professor Muhammad Khalid Uthman, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Katsina.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
According to the statement, the governor said the approval reflects his administration’s commitment to providing affordable, safe, and reliable transportation as part of its broader development agenda. “Transportation remains a critical part of our development priorities, especially for students who rely on regular and affordable mobility to pursue their education,” Radda said.
According to the governor, each bus has the capacity to convey up to 100 passengers, a move he said would significantly reduce the transportation burden faced by students of Federal University Dutsinma and the general public. “Our goal is to ensure that students can move safely and conveniently, without transportation becoming an obstacle to learning,” he added.
Governor Radda also assured the Vice-Chancellor that a tractor requested by the university would be released upon the completion of due process, reaffirming the state government’s support for tertiary institutions. “We remain committed to supporting Federal University Dutsinma and other institutions in initiatives that promote academic excellence and improve student welfare,” he said.
Earlier, Professor Uthman commended the governor for prioritising students’ welfare, noting that the approval of the buses would greatly ease movement and enhance access to academic activities.
“Governor Radda has consistently shown genuine concern for student welfare across the state. This intervention is timely and impactful,” he said.
