ABUJA, Nigeria – The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology chapter of the Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) has suspended its four-month industrial action, following an emergency congress held on Monday.
Academic activities resumed on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, according to a statement signed by Interim Chairman Prof Michael Olamoyegun and Interim Secretary Dr Ayobami Alabi on Wednesday.
The lecturers have been on strike since 31 July, protesting the delayed full implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS). NAMDA says only the basic salary component of CONMESS has been paid so far, while allowances and arrears accruing from January 2025 remain outstanding.
The association previously rejected a proposed implementation date of July 2026, calling it unacceptable after 19 months of negotiations.
In its latest resolution, NAMDA says the suspension is intended to enable “constructive and good-faith engagement” with the university management.
“Only the basic component of CONMESS has been received so far,” the statement reads. “All associated allowances under full CONMESS remain outstanding, together with arrears from January 2025.”
The congress also adopted a framework for periodic progress reviews, warning that future actions—including escalation—will depend on management’s responsiveness.
NAMDA says its decision reflects appeals from stakeholders and its commitment to prevent further disruption in the medical training calendar. It acknowledges the interventions of the Governing Council and the Oyo State Commissioner for Education.
The association commends members for their resilience and unity, saying their sacrifice “upheld the dignity of the profession” throughout the industrial action.
