LAGOS, Nigeria – The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area has begun deploying multi-agency security personnel to public primary and secondary schools as part of a new initiative aimed at strengthening safety for pupils across the council.
Chairman Sesan Olowa announced the measure on Monday, describing it as a necessary step to protect children and maintain a secure learning environment amid rising concerns over school safety nationwide.
“Our priority is the safety of lives and property, especially our children in learning environments,” Olowa said. “We want our children to learn without fear. That is why these officers will be visible around school corridors.”
The deployed operatives are drawn from: the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Ibeju-Lekki Community Corps (Folumo), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Nigerian Forest Security Services (Hunters).
Olowa urged parents, school administrators and community leaders to support the initiative by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities around school premises.
He assured residents that the deployment forms part of a broader local government strategy to establish “a secure, peaceful and enabling environment for quality education and community development” in Ibeju-Lekki.
