BORNO, Nigeria – The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) is set to graduate 205 first-class students as it marks its 25th convocation and Golden Jubilee celebration on 29th November 2025.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Mele announced the milestone during a press briefing in Maiduguri on Monday.
A total of 20,164 graduates will receive degrees and diplomas. The breakdown includes 66 PhDs, 1,020 Master’s degrees, 3,851 Postgraduate Diplomas, 13,624 Bachelor’s degrees, and 1,699 diploma holders. Of the Bachelor’s cohort, 3,114 students earn Second Class Upper and 9,501 receive Second Class Lower.
Calling the anniversary a moment of reflection and pride, Prof. Mele said:
“The Golden Jubilee is a celebration of resilience, growth, and purpose. From two faculties at inception to 17 today, UNIMAID has evolved despite insurgency, economic pressures, and a global pandemic.”
He emphasised that the university has become “a steadfast symbol of courage, stability, and intellectual fortitude for the Sahel region.”
UNIMAID will also honour three eminent Nigerians for outstanding national service and confer the title of Professors Emeriti on selected staff.
Prof. Mele further announced the launch of the UNIMAID Endowment Fund, which aims to secure the institution’s long-term development.
“The Fund will strengthen research, expand infrastructure, nurture innovation, support scholarships, and ensure financial sustainability,” he explained.
He urged alumni and partners to support the university’s vision:
“We invite all lovers of education to join us in shaping the UNIMAID of the future.”
